10 Tips to Recover From the Christmas Excesses

High-calorie snacks, meals with extra fat and over-abundant dinners have been "day-to-day" throughout the past weeks. Now, the time has come to turn back and eliminate its effects. For this, here are 10 tips to tune up your body and your health.

1. Hand out the leftovers

A good way to lower the pace of pica-picas, lunches and dinners of the past weeks is preparing suppers with the remains of the last celebrations.

Organize a dinner with friends or plan a route from house to house. You all win. They will be excited to try your recipes and you will be free from the temptation to continue with the excesses.

2. Reduce sugar

You can consider it as one of the new purposes scheduled for the coming year. The important thing is that reducing added sugars or foods that already contain it is always a good idea, and after the Christmas excesses, even more.

You can start by halving the sugar you add to coffee or tea, and gradually decrease until you do not add anything. You will see that your palate will adapt progressively.

3. Retrieve your schedules

Going back to the routine does not have to be a bad thing. In fact, as far as food intake is concerned, it is very healthy. Your body needs to go back to the usual schedule.

In general, it is recommended to eat five meals throughout the day, of which dinner should not take place after 9 o'clock at night and at least two hours before going to sleep.

4. More artichokes, asparagus and pears

In short, more depurative foods, that is, those that stimulate the liver, kidneys and intestine and that relieve discomfort due to excesses, such as heaviness of the stomach, swelling sensation, flatulence or headache.

The foods that tone the liver are vegetables with a slight bitter taste like artichokes, while vegetables and fruits, such as celery, asparagus, apple or pear, activate the depurative action of the kidney.

5. Take up physical activity

If you already practice sports on a regular basis, perfect. You just have to go back to your usual routines. However, if you did not have that habit, we recommend that you make a space in your sports agenda.

To start, you can go brisk walking for an hour or jogging for 20 minutes. Although if you are not used to it, it will be better to choose to walk and little by little increase the time and/or the intensity.

6. Add fiber to your diet

After the feasts of the last weeks your belly is swollen and it does not seem that this is going to change. However, high-fiber foods will help you a lot in evacuating and relieving the swollen belly.

You can prepare a delicious apple sauce with a splash of lemon and cinnamon, and add a handful of nuts and prunes.

7. Drink a lot of water

It is time to get rid of the toxins, and water is the vehicle that your body uses to get rid of these substances.

On the other hand, the lack of water, can lead to headaches, apathy, decreased memory, fatigue… Drink at least a liter and a half or two a day.

8. Infusions in the afternoon

Both horsetail and dandelion infusions are perfect to combat fluid retention. Which is great for losing weight. Now, remember that you are eliminating liquid, not fat.

Horsetail is also an excellent remedy to nourish the skin, nails and hair.

9. Renew your breakfasts

The time has come to say goodbye to the commercial bakery, juices and drinks whose content in trans fats, saturated and simple sugars are not at all healthy.

Opt for breakfast that includes fruit, protein, fiber, healthy fats and carbohydrates. For example: a tangerine, whole grains with skimmed milk or soy drink or a slice of wholemeal bread with a slice of turkey breast.

10. Join the practice of yoga

Although it is usually related more to a technique to increase concentration and relaxation, one of its many not so well known benefits is that it helps control weight and burn calories, which will be great for losing those pounds gained lately.

One study published in Medicine & Science revealed that the average caloric expenditure during a one-hour yoga session is about 507 calories.
